Butte robber may be 'bad hair bandit'

BUTTE, Mont., Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Montana police say a woman who robbed a Butte bank may be the "bad hair bandit" suspected in 18 bank robberies in Oregon and Washington since 2010.

A heavy-set woman wearing a wig entered the Butte bank and gave the teller a note demanding money, implying she had a gun, The (Butte) Montana Standard reported Aug 12.

The FBI's Web site says the big hair bandit, so called because she wears a variety of unattractive wigs during the robberies, commits the crimes by passing a note to the teller and claiming she has a gun.

"I couldn't confirm she (bad hair bandit) is involved, but it certainly has potential," Butte Sheriff John Walsh said.

The woman left the Butte bank with an undisclosed amount of cash and the robbery remains under investigation, police said.
