Perry wants Pawlenty endorsement

PORTSMOUTH, N.H., Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry, campaigning in New Hampshire Sunday, said he hopes to win the endorsement of former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty.

Perry is starting his run for the Republican presidential nomination just as Pawlenty has dropped out of the race.

Perry said he and Pawlenty spoke by telephone Sunday morning, and Pawlenty he was going home to "clear his head a little bit," the Los Angeles Times reported.

At a family festival in Portsmouth, Perry said Pawlenty is a "favorite" of his.

"He is one of my favorite governors out there, not only because of what a Republican governor did in a pretty blue state, but also in a personal way," Perry said. "He is one of the funniest guys I've ever been around in my life and I just love him." Perry said they often "joke and poke each other," the Times reported.
