CHARLESTON, S.C., Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Republican Texas Gov. Rick Perry will make a clean indication about his intentions for the 2012 presidential campaign Saturday in South Carolina, advisers say.
While Perry is not expected to formally announce a campaign in Charleston this weekend, people privy to his planning say a speech he will be making at the RedState Gathering, a convention of conservative activists, will clear up any uncertainty about his presidential aspirations, CNN reported. Perry's advisers say an official candidacy announcement will come sometime before Labor Day.
The Texas governor's trip to South Carolina to meet with Republican activists will be followed by a trip to New Hampshire and then Iowa to appear before Republican crowds in the key early primary states, The New York Times reported.
"With President Obama's dismal economic record and Texas success in creating jobs and balancing our budget, Governor Perry continues to consider a potential run for The White House," said Mark Miner, a spokesman for Perry.
Perry has been calling conservative activists and meeting with donors for weeks in preparation for the potential campaign.
