CLARKSVILLE, Ind., July 26 (UPI) -- Police say they found two newborns in a Clarksville, Ind., hotel bathroom.

Clarksville police were called to a hotel room Friday afternoon by Betsy Dalton, 36, and Jerry L. Conrad, 52, WLKY-TV of Louisville, Ky., reported.

A press release from Clarksville Police Chief Dwight Ingle said when officers arrived Dalton and Conrad were asked what was wrong multiple times before Conrad replied there were "babies in the toilet."

Police then entered the bathroom and found twin newborns, one male and one female, in the toilet.

The baby girl began crying as soon as she was taken out of the toilet, but the police were unable to resuscitate the male.

Dalton and the newborns were taken to the hospital where the boy was pronounced dead. The female newborn is listed in good condition.

Both Dalton and Conrad, who police say have a diminished mental capacity, told police that they did not know that Dalton was pregnant.

The hotel maintenance manager Bruce Casey told WLKY that the two had been living in the hotel since January.

"There have been no charges filed, and there won't be until the prosecutor reviews it and we find a cause of death," Ingle said in the press release.
