CHICAGO, July 25 (UPI) -- A man was arrested in Chicago for allegedly throwing a baby at police officers, police say.

The man is accused of kidnapping the infant, then hurling it at two police officers early Monday, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Two officers were in the area responding to a domestic incident. When they arrived, they saw the man walking toward them on the street with the baby in his arms. They approached the man, who then threw the baby at them, the newspaper said.

"The officer was able to catch the baby before the baby hit the concrete," Chicago police officer John Mirabelli said.

Then, as one officer was handing the baby back to its mother, the man "became combative" and struggled with the other officer before he was arrested.

The officers were taken to a hospital for the minor injuries they suffered to be checked out. The man was now in police custody pending charges.
