FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., July 12 (UPI) -- Six boaters were rescued by a Florida cruise ship after their fishing vessel caught fire and sank off the coast of the Bahamas, a ship spokeswoman said.
Samantha Poole said the two women and four men were found clinging to floating debris Monday evening when crew members pulled them aboard the Fort Lauderdale-based Discovery Sun, The Miami Herald reported.
Poole said none of the rescued boaters was wearing a life vest.
They ranged in age from 24 to 45 and were treated for second-degree burns on the cruise ship.
Identities of the passengers were not available, but Poole said they were of Jamaican, Haitian and Cuban descent.
The U.S. Coast Guard sent a ship to the Discovery Sun to retrieve the six.
A Coast Guard spokeswoman said officials planned to interview the rescued boaters.
