Feds get blogger to delete jail floor plan

PORTLAND, Ore., July 5 (UPI) -- A popular blogger in Portland, Ore., says he has taken down images of a planned immigration facility at the request of federal authorities.

Chelsea Turnbull of the General Services Administration confirmed to The Oregonian an investigation of how detailed floor plans for the proposed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement center got to Jack Bogdanski, a law professor at Lewis & Clark College.

The center is to include holding cells for suspects in customs and immigration offenses and has stirred local opposition.

"I don't know who they think has committed a crime," Bogdanski said. "I don't want to be portrayed as aiding and abetting terrorism, so I took it down."

"Because some of the people who move through that area are suspected of committing a crime," Turnbull said, "we don't want them to have additional information about the facility."

Federal authorities call the facility an office, but the Portland City Council in February said planned holding cells require a public hearing, which is set for Wednesday.

"If this is not a jail," Bogdanski asked, "then why is the floor plan secret?"
