THRALL, Texas, June 9 (UPI) -- A senior prank at a Texas high school could cost two teenagers a couple of years of freedom.
Zachery Candelas, 17, of Coupland and Jared Cummings, 18, of Elgin, both seniors at Thrall High School, were arrested this week and released on bail after being charged with criminal mischief, the Austin American-Statesman reported. Both face as long as two years in jail if convicted.
Officials say the damage discovered May 23 at the high school cost more than $13,000 to repair. It included hoisting a pirate flag and putting up the message, "Honk if you're horny," on the school's marquee as well as putting glue in door locks and cutting the fan belts of 10 school buses.
"It was a prank that just went too far," Thrall Police Chief Whitney Whitworth said Wednesday.
Interim Superintendent Ernie Laurence said seniors allegedly made out a "bucket list" of pranks at the beginning of the school year. He said the more harmless items were carried out but apparently only Candelas and Cummings were up for more serious ones.
The teens allegedly admitted being the vandals to police.
