Stabbed cop in critical condition

CAMDEN, N.J., June 6 (UPI) -- A New Jersey police officer was in critical, but stable condition after he was stabbed in the chest while trying to break up a fight, officials said.

Camden Police Officer Richard Harris' injuries Saturday evening were so serious fellow officers didn't wait for an ambulance and instead rushed him to the hospital in a traffic-cone truck, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported Monday.

Harris, a 14-year-veteran, was working a traffic post about 10 p.m. as concertgoers were leaving the Susquehanna Bank Center when the fight broke out. He was stabbed when he tried to separate two men involved in the fracas.

The officer was able to draw his weapon and hold the stabbing suspect until help arrived.

Ronald Belcher, 28, was charged with attempted murder and weapons offenses. Lamont Cloud, 33, was charged with obstructing justice and resisting arrest. Both are from Camden.

They were being held in the Camden County Jail. Police said it didn't appear that either of the men had attended the concert.
