Boy, 4, killed by attacking dog

NEW YORK, May 28 (UPI) -- A 4-year-old boy died after being bitten in the throat by one of his father's dogs, New York City police said.

Investigators said the attack occurred Friday evening in a bedroom of the family's Brooklyn apartment while Jayelin Graham was playing with two of his brothers, The New York Times reported.

His mother, Saquina Jubeark, told police she noticed things seemed to be too quiet in the room, looked in and saw the dog mauling Jayelin while the other boys hid.

Police said the dog involved in the attack was a Cane Corso, an Italian breed used as a guard and hunting dog.

Kenneth Risher, the building superintendent, said other residents of the building were afraid of the Cane Corso and another dog, a Siberian husky mix. He said the dogs belong to Jubeark's boyfriend, who sometimes trained them to bite in front of the building, wearing a guard on his arm.

"Everybody would run when he came out," Risher told the Times.

The dogs were taken to an animal shelter. The death is under investigation.
