Trump: I got Obama to release certificate

PORTSMOUTH, N.H., April 27 (UPI) -- Donald Trump told reporters, admirers and bystanders Wednesday in New Hampshire he got President Obama to release his birth certificate.

The undeclared presidential candidate said he was "very serious" about a possible run and would make an announcement before June, The New York Times reported. But the birth certificate issue dominated the day.

"I'm very proud of myself because I've accomplished something that nobody else has been able to accomplish," Trump said. "I am really honored, frankly, to have played such a big role in hopefully, hopefully, getting rid of this issue."

Whatever his talk of getting past the issue, Trump brought it up at almost every stop, the Times said.

What Obama actually released Wednesday was a long-form certificate. The short-form certificate Hawaii regards as official has been in the public domain since 2008 with other evidence the future president was born in Honolulu.

Trump did take on other issues. He told workers at Wilcox Industries, a defense manufacturer in Portsmouth, that China is "raping" the United States, and Obama is not doing much about it.
