Lake Mead boat fire prompts evacuation

BOULDER CITY, Nev., April 22 (UPI) -- Campers at Nevada's Lake Mead were evacuated Friday morning as firefighters and park rangers worked to extinguish a boat fire, officials said.

Boulder City firefighters and National Park Service rangers responded to a call Friday of a boat fire that burned a tent and surrounding brush at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, the Las Vegas Sun reported.

The boat's operator was filling its gas tank when he inadvertently hit the ignition, causing a spark that ignited fuel vapors, investigators told the newspaper.

No one was injured in the incident, park officials said.
