20 teens hurt in Georgia bus accident

MACON, Ga., April 11 (UPI) -- A tour bus carrying high school students went off Interstate 75 in South Georgia, injuring 20 passengers, the Georgia State Patrol said.

The accident took place in Dooly County around 3 p.m. Sunday, WMAZ-TV, Macon, reported.

One of the passengers had to be evacuated by helicopter to the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon and was in stable condition, authorities said. State patrol spokesman Gordy Wright told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution she was "was up and walking" Sunday night.

The patrol said an SUV merged into a lane in a construction zone, pushed a car off the road and then hit the bus. The bus then drove off the road and hit an overpass.

WSB-TV, Atlanta, said the charter bus, with 52 aboard, was returning to Mill Creek High School in Buford from a trip to Florida.
