Man arrested in near-decapitation slaying

NEW YORK, April 10 (UPI) -- A New York woman was found fatally stabbed and nearly decapitated Sunday and police said they had charged her boyfriend in her death.

Police and witnesses said Sarah Coit, 23, was attacked in her Lower East Side apartment about 2:15 a.m. during an argument with her 33-year-old boyfriend, Raul Barrera, the New York Daily News reported. She died more than an hour later at a hospital.

"Her whole neck was cut all the way," Briana Andalore, 20, a neighbor who saw the victim being hauled away on a stretcher, told the newspaper. "Her head was almost cut off."

Jason Figueroa, 15, who lives in the apartment just above the victim's, said he heard the couple arguing.

"She was like 'Stop, get off of me,'" he said. "And she was yelling and then she just got quiet. That's when I called 9-1-1."

Barrera surrendered to police and was charged with second-degree murder, the Daily News said.
