MENOMINEE FALLS, Wis., April 3 (UPI) -- A 51-year-old woman drowned Sunday afternoon when she fell through ice while trying to rescue her dog, police in Menominee Falls, Wis., said.

The woman's body was found in 6-8 feet of water at Rivers Edge Park and was pronounced dead at a hospital, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. The dog, whose body was found on the ice, apparently died of hypothermia, police said.

The woman's name had not been released pending notification of relatives.
