Woman injected with cyanide dies

NEW YORK, March 16 (UPI) -- The wife a New York man who allegedly injected her with cyanide before drinking a fatal dose himself died in a hospital, authorities said.

Relatives of Erlendy Flores, 35, said she had broken up with her husband, Flavio Godoy, 41, on Sunday and had returned to their Bronx apartment to pack her belongings, the New York Daily News reported.

As she was bending over to pack, he allegedly jabbed a cyanide-filled syringe into her buttocks, then drank from a bottle of cyanide and died.

Godoy was a former jeweler and cyanide is often used to clean jewelry, police said.

Flores died early Tuesday.

Neighbors said the couple had a violent history.

"He would paint the walls with her," neighbor Richard Santiago said. "You could hear the screaming. I called the cops myself."

Santiago said he was with Flores' brother, who had driven her to the apartment to pack, when she screamed out the fourth-floor window, "He stabbed me! He stabbed me!"

In the apartment they found Godoy dead.

"By the time we got upstairs, he was gone," Santiago said.
