Lawyers seek terror witness e-mails

CHICAGO, March 16 (UPI) -- Lawyers for a man awaiting trial on terrorism charges in Chicago want to see the e-mail correspondence of the expected star prosecution witness.

Tahawwur Rana is scheduled to go on trial in May, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. He allegedly helped David Headley, now cooperating with the government, facilitate the deadly attacks in Mumbai and an attempt to attack a Danish newspaper.

Rana's lawyers say Headley had a complicated personal life, including a wife and children in Chicago and at least one other wife. They argue they need his entire e-mail archive to see if he had a pattern of being picky in what he told various people about himself.

Headley and Rana are Pakistani nationals who met while in military school there. Headley changed his name to allow easier movement across borders in the west.

Headley has pleaded guilty.
