VAIL, Colo., March 9 (UPI) -- A man charged with child abuse for punching a 14-year-old girl in the face at a Colorado ski resort has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault.
Scott Filler, 41, of Georgia told police he reacted when the 14-year-old bumped into his 4-year-old son at Colorado's Beaver Creek ski resort in December, the Vail Daily reported Wednesday.
Filler jumped on top of the girl and hit her in the face with his fist, a police report said.
The victim did not want Filler sent to jail, Eagle Country District Attorney Mark Hurlbert said, which is why his office pursued community service, anger-management classes and restitution as punishment.
"The judge sentenced him to anger-management classes, restitution but gave him a $500 fee in lieu of community service," Hurlbert said. "We are still awaiting restitution numbers from the victim."
