Suspect caught in Virginia triple slaying

MADISON, Va., Feb. 14 (UPI) -- A Virginia man accused in the triple slaying of his aunt, uncle and cousin has been charged with three counts of capital murder, authorities said.

The county sheriff's office said Rashad Matthew Riddick, 23, of Newport News was arrested without incident Sunday at a hotel in the Newport News area, the Culpeper Star-Exponent reported.

Madison County Sheriff Erik Weaver said James Clark Jackson, 55, Karen Lee Jackson, 53, and Chante Latrice Davis, 26 were found dead Saturday morning at the Jackson home, apparent victims of gunshot wounds to the upper body Friday, The Free Lance-Star of Fredericksburg reported.

Weaver said Riddick is the son of James Jackson's sister, the newspaper said.

Deputies called to a residence in the county found James Jackson lying in the yard and the bodies of the two women inside the home.

His truck was reported missing from the house and was discovered in the Hampton Roads area Sunday about 3 p.m.

"We knew he was in the area then," Weaver said.

Riddick was discovered in a motel room located nearby and arrested several hours later without incident.

In terms of a motive, Weaver said, "We honestly don't have a clue."
