The boy allegedly climbed onto a shelf and grabbed a loaded .22-caliber handgun that accidentally discharged while he was examining it.

The bullet nicked both the boy's thumb and his sister's knee, police said.

The children were taken to a hospital where they were reported in stable condition.

The Sheriff's Office was investigating and no charges had been filed, WMAZ-TV reported.
