New findings in Zahra Baker slaying

HICKORY, N.C., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Police in North Carolina say it's unclear what role, if any, a briefcase and blanket will play in the investigation into the death of 10-year-old Zahra Baker.

Loggers discovered the briefcase Tuesday near a section of road where police found a bone fragment belonging to Zahra and the gel liner from her prosthetic leg, The Charlotte Observer reported Wednesday.

Investigators said the blanket, which had a dark stain on it, has been sent to the State Bureau of Investigation in Raleigh for analysis.

Zahra was reported missing in October. Her dismembered body and remains were discarded by the killer.

In another development, police said Zahra's stepmother, Elisa Baker, was indicted for bigamy Tuesday.

She is accused of marrying Zahra's father Adam Baker in Australia in July 2008, a year before divorcing her previous husband, court documents show.

Search warrants unsealed in recent weeks indicate the investigation into Zahra's death so far has focused largely on what role Elisa Baker may have played.
