WASHINGTON, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- A smaller majority of Americans still favor the tax deal negotiated by President Obama and congressional Republican leaders, Rasmussen Reports said.
A Rasmussen Reports survey released Wednesday indicated 52 percent of likely voters favor the agreement that extends the tax cuts for all tax brackets for two more years, cuts the Social Security payroll tax rate for one year and renews long-term unemployment benefits for an additional 13 months. Thirty-one percent said they oppose the deal, and another 17 percent said they were unsure.
A Rasmussen Reports survey last week said 56 percent supported the agreement and 29 percent opposed and 15 percent undecided.
Support among Republicans fell from 70 percent a week ago to 61 percent in the latest poll. Democrats are less enthusiastic and support the plan by a 46 percent to 35 percent margin, a gap Rasmussen Reports said changed little from last week.
Results are based on a nationwide survey of 1,000 conducted Monday and Tuesday. The margin of sampling error is 3 percentage points.
