Friend: Missing girl feared mom's partner

ROANOKE, Va., Dec. 8 (UPI) -- A missing Virginia girl expressed fear of her mother's live-in boyfriend months ago, a friend says.

Brittany Smith, 12, was afraid Jeffrey Easley, 32, "would come over and take her away and hurt her mom," the friend, Rebecca Kilian, 13, told The Roanoke Times.

And on Thursday Brittany's mother, nurse Tina Smith, 41, posted on her Facebook profile: "If I should die before I wake God bless my friends. May I be remembered for my good heart and hopeless romantic ways."

Tina Smith was found dead Monday morning, WSLS-TV, Greenville, N.C., reported Wednesday, and Brittany and Smith's car are missing. The report did not list the cause of Tina's death.

Virginia State Police say they have a Friday night surveillance video from a Walmart of Brittany with Easley.

Police are seeking Easley, who was living with Smith and her daughter, as "a person of interest" in the case.

Easley's mother, Sally Martin of Greenville, appealed to her son to call her or 911.

Easley used Smith's credit card, which let police get two felony warrants for his arrest, officials said.
