Police search for mail carrier's killer

MIAMI, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Miami police continued their search Tuesday for a gunman who shot and killed a veteran postal worker delivering mail at an apartment complex.

The gunman initially took off in the letter carrier's truck but abandoned it and fled on foot, The Miami Herald reported.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service has offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to the capture of the man who killed Bruce Parton, 60.

Parton was months away from celebrating 30 years of service when he was shot Monday afternoon.

He was the seventh postal worker nationwide to be killed on the job this year, Postal Inspector Bladismir Rojo said.

"We can't say for sure robbery was the motive for the killing," Rojo said. "At first glance of the inside of the truck, we can't tell if any mail trays were taken."
