Man bragged of killing comic, police say

NEW ORLEANS, Nov. 24 (UPI) -- A New Orleans man bragged on videotape about killing a YouTube comedian, police said.

Jason Hamilton was charged last weekend in the Nov. 14 killing of Anthony Barre, 22, who became an Internet sensation as the comedian Messy Mya, The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune reported.

Barre was shot while getting into his car as he left a baby shower for the son he and his girlfriend were expecting. The killing set off a storm from social media users demanding justice.

On Nov. 17, police said Hamilton went to Delgado Community College and approached a woman. He threatened to shoot her dead because she refused to shake his hand and told her he had just killed Messy Mya, police said.

A campus police officer stopped Hamilton and escorted him off the campus after finding no outstanding arrest warrants.

When homicide detective Kevin Burns met the student, she told him there was video of the encounter. Burns viewed the footage and noted Hamilton's resemblance to a description of the man who shot Barre.

A witness confirmed the identification, police said.
