94-year-old woman found in freezer

CALABASAS, Calif., Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Investigators are trying to determine how a 94-year-old woman possibly suffering from dementia wound up in a walk-in freezer in Calabasas, Calif.

Mollye Fischer, a resident at Silverado Senior Living in Calabasas, is back at the facility and is "safe and sound," after being hospitalized, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The incident happened on Oct. 28, when employees couldn't find the woman. After a search she was found standing inside the facility's freezer.

Mark Mostow, senior vice president at Silverado, refused to discuss details of the incident, but said Fischer is "back at the community safe and sound," and said "corrective action" was taken against two employees.

The facility was recently in the spotlight when a former employee was convicted of physically abusing residents, including a mute 78-year-old woman he body slammed, the newspaper said.

The upscale nursing home charges upwards of $70,000 per year to take care of its residents, most of whom have dementia. The California Department of Social Services was investigating the incident.

A spokesman for the Department of Social Services said action against the facility can range from a fine to closure.
