Four killed in trailer fire

ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- A dog and some chickens survived a fire that killed four people and gutted a trailer in Alaska, fire officials say.

The blaze was reported about 6 a.m. Tuesday, the Anchorage Daily News reported.

A passing driver saw fire coming out of the trailer, Tim Morgan, a captain with the Talkeetna Fire Department, said. By the time firefighters arrived, flames were leaping 20 feet above the trailer.

"Because of the building type, it's very common for these to go quickly, and for fire departments to have little success in saving a structure," Morgan said.

Officials said they were having trouble locating relatives for notification.

Neighbors described the house as a travel trailer expanded with an addition. The property was near Willow at Mile 87 on the Parks Highway, the main route between Anchorage and Fairbanks.

The dog, a chocolate Labrador, was in a separate dog house and was not injured.

Animal Control officers took custody of all the animals.
