Tea Party-backed LePage wins in Maine

AUGUSTA, Maine, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Maine voters have put Tea Party-backed Republican Paul LePage in the governor's office, election results showed Wednesday.

Maine Public Broadcasting Network said the Waterville mayor and businessman had narrowly edged independent candidate Eliot Cutler. Democrat Libby Mitchell was far back in third place. LePage had 38 percent of the vote to Cutler's 37. The rest of the vote was split between Mitchell and other minor party candidates.

Cutler conceded to LePage, who will succeed two-term Democratic Gov. John Baldacci, the network said.
