Medical waste box left at Conn. synagogue

BLOOMFIELD, Conn., Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Connecticut police say they asked the FBI to investigate the discovery of possible medical waste material at a synagogue's annual hazardous waste collection.

A package marked "infectious" was dropped off Sunday at Congregation Tikvoh Chadoshoh in Bloomfield during the collection of more common household waste such as batteries, paint and herbicides.

Police said Monday they have an idea who dropped off the suspicious package, the Hartford (Conn.) Courant said.

Rabbi Stephen Landau said dropping off the package was probably a hoax and did not appear to be part of some hate crime.
