Meltdown teacher had previous trouble

NASHVILLE, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- A veteran Tennessee teacher whose meltdown in class was posted on the Internet had a history of trouble controlling his students, personnel records indicate.

Donald Brian Wood, a 21-year professional, is now on leave from his job at McGavock High School in Nashville, The (Nashville) Tennessean reported.

Wood's family said he had a nervous breakdown and is receiving psychiatric care after a two-minute cell phone video showing him yelling at his students and turning over tables was posted on YouTube and reposted on numerous Web sites.

Metro schools placed Wood on leave while the incident is being investigated.

Evaluations paint Wood as a knowledgeable teacher who was frequently cited for his need to improve relationships with students and parents, the newspaper said.

His teacher evaluations show ongoing problems with classroom management.

In 1998, a middle school administrator wrote that Wood continued to have problems "accusing and being accused of inappropriate physical threats/contacts."
