Kansas man charged with slaying girl, 14

GREAT BEND, Kan., Sept. 7 (UPI) -- The Kansas attorney general announced Tuesday capital murder charges were filed against a man in the August slaying of a 14-year-old girl.

The complaint alleges Adam Joseph Longoria, 36, of Great Bend, killed Alicia Debolt Aug. 21 or 22 during or subsequent to an act of criminal sodomy, and that Longoria engaged in sodomy with another child during the same time period, WIBW-TV in Topeka reported. Longoria faces the death penalty if convicted.

Longoria was considered a person of interest after the girl's burned body was discovered at an asphalt plant where Longoria worked, the Wichita Eagle reported.

A lawyer with the Kansas Death Penalty Defense Unit is representing Longoria, the Eagle reported.

Longoria, who moved to Great Bend in May after his release from a Texas prison, was already being held in the Barton County jail on charges of vehicle burglary and theft charges connected to a car that was stolen from the asphalt plant.

Longoria's bond was raised from $150,000 to $1.5 million, and no court date has yet been set for a preliminary hearing, KSN-TV reported.

A memorial service was held for the girl who would have been a freshman at Great Bend High School, the Eagle said.
