UPS plane crashes in Dubai

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- A Germany-bound cargo plane crashed on takeoff in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Friday, killing the two crew members on board, aviation officials said.

Civil aviation authorities said the plane went down in an unpopulated area near the Nad al-Sheba army camp.

United Parcel Service Inc. issued a statement saying the Boeing 747-400 was en route to Cologne, Germany, and the company would release more information when available.

Gulf News quoted police sources as saying there was a third casualty in the incident. It was unclear whether the plane exploded and caught fire in flight or whether it caught fire on crashing.
