PHOENIX, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Dozens of mothers breastfed their infants at a Phoenix McDonald's protesting the eviction of a woman doing the same, observers say.

The incident prompting Saturday's demonstration occurred Aug. 11 when Clarissa Bradford began nursing her 6-month-old baby and the assistant manager asked her to take her children with her and leave, The Arizona Republic reported.

The restaurant issued an apology saying that kind of incident would never happen again, but some demonstrators say they were still upset at public reaction.

One of the women who attended the protest, Rachel Starchman, said she was disturbed over some Internet comments and images connected to the quarrel, including posters suggesting mothers breastfeed their babies in the toilet, the newspaper said.

"Would you want to eat in the bathroom? That's disgusting," she said.
