More than 100K without power in Detroit

DETROIT, June 19 (UPI) -- About 167,000 DTE Energy and Consumer Energy customers were without power Saturday, a day after storms wreaked havoc on the city's power grid, officials said.

The Detroit News reported a DTE spokesman said utility crews would be working through the weekend to get power restored to about 100,000 of the company's customers.

The rest without electricity were Consumer Energy customers, the newspaper said.

Winds gusting to 65 mph and lightning caused "pretty extensive damage to our equipment," DTE spokesman Len Singer told the News.
