ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, June 15 (UPI) -- A U.S. citizen told Pakistani police he was out to kill Osama bin Laden and his four aides because they pose a threat to the United States, officials said.

Gary Brooks Faulkner of California was arrested in Kalish Valley while trying to cross into Afghanistan, the Pakistani newspaper Dawn reported Tuesday. Faulkner arrived in Chitral, Pakistan, as a tourist June 2.

Police in Chitral said Faulkner, 52, eluded police security at a hotel, and was found in the forest after a 10-hour search.

During questioning, Faulkner said he was going to the Afghan province of Nooristan on a "mission to decapitate Osama bin Laden" and his four accomplices because of the constant threat they posed to the United States, Dawn reported.

Police recovered a knife, a gun, ammunition and a night-vision device. Police said they transferred Faulkner from Chitral to Peshawar for further questioning.
