Fla. boy gets 20 years for strangling girl

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., May 17 (UPI) -- A Florida teenager was sentenced to 20 years in prison Monday for strangling a 14-year-old girl after they had sex and she made fun of him for being a virgin.

Jason Hartley, now 17, was given the prison term in Broward County court after changing his plea to guilty, Miami's WSVN-TV reported. Under the plea deal, he could become eligible for parole before serving all 20 years.

Hartley was convicted in the June 28, 2008, death of fellow middle school student Neica Marie Gibbs.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported police said Hartley confessed that their tryst turned violent after she mocked him. After strangling her, he wrapped her body in a tarp and placed her in a large garbage container, the newspaper said. Her body wasn't found for three weeks.
