19-year-old to be tried as juvenile

KENTON, Ohio, May 11 (UPI) -- A young Ohio woman may go on trial soon in juvenile court for allegedly killing her mother four years ago when she was 15.

Meredith Poling's trial has been delayed as prosecutors appealed a judge's decision to keep the case in juvenile court, The Columbus Dispatch reported. The state Supreme Court rejected the appeal in February.

Michelle Murnahan was killed with a shotgun Aug. 1, 2006, in her home in Hardin County in northwestern Ohio. Her daughter denies killing her mother. Investigators say she was angry after the two had an argument.

Poling, now 19, has been in a juvenile detention center in Bellefontaine, Ohio, since 2007. She has graduated from high school during her years there.

Lt. Greg Fitzpatrick is with the Logan County Sheriff's Department, which manages the detention center.

"We've talked around here about how unusual it is, and how we kind of feel sorry for her," Fitzpatrick said. "She's been a real role model for the others."
