Indiana plane crash kills two

ELIZABETH, Ind., May 3 (UPI) -- A single-engine plane crash killed both people aboard, police in Elizabeth, Ind., said.

The Piper crashed in a field Sunday night about 2 miles north of the Horseshoe Casino, The (Louisville, Ky.) Courier-Journal reported Monday.

The names of the dead were not released.

Witnesses said the plane corkscrewed into the ground near the Ohio River, sending shrapnel over a wide area. A woman whose car was hit by the flying debris was not injured.

The plane was en route to Bowman Field in Louisville, said Floyd County Police Detective Jeff Topping, who did not say where the flight originated.

National Transportation Safety Board officials said they planned to investigate the crash.
