LEBU, Chile, May 3 (UPI) -- A 6.3-magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Chile Monday, U.S. monitors said.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported the temblor hit about 7:30 p.m. local time. It was centered about 30 miles south-southeast of Lebu in Chile's Bio-Bio region and 65 miles northwest of Temuco.

The quake occurred at a depth of nearly 12 miles, the USGS said.
Meanwhile, the USGS said a 6.1 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Izu Islands in the Japan region.
The quake happened about 7:28 p.m. local time 190 miles north-northwest of Chichi-shima on the Bonin Islands and 425 miles south of Tokyo. Its depth was more than 51 miles.
No damage reports were immediately available.
