Former CIA agent faces sex deviance charge

NORFOLK, Va., April 27 (UPI) -- A former CIA official was arrested in Virginia on a federal charge of sexual deviance stemming from incidents during his tenure as station chief in Algeria.

Andrew Marvin Warren, 42, of Norfolk, was removed from his post in October 2008 following accusations by two Algerian women that he sexually assaulted them after they had been incapacitated by drinks while in his home, the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot reported Tuesday.

But an affidavit from Warren filed last year indicated he told investigators he had "consensual sexual intercourse" with the women.

Warren's employment with the CIA was terminated in March 2009, and a grand jury issued an indictment of one count against him in June, the Virginian-Pilot reported, adding that it's unclear why Warren was free at the time of his arrest Monday, as he had surrendered to federal agents in Washington at the time of the indictment.

Warren is scheduled for trial June 21 in Washington. He faces a sentence of up to life in prison if convicted, the Justice Department said.
