"The members of the Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue Department and the community of Blowing Rock ask for your prayers and understanding, as we support those who have lost a loved one," the department said in a release.

Highway Patrol troopers said Bolick apparently lost control of his Ford Mustang on wet pavement Sunday, forcing his car into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

Both Bolick and Wright were declared dead at the scene of the crash while the individuals inside the other vehicle were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The other crash victims were identified as Jeffrey and Cynthia Bassett.

The Highway Patrol alleges in a report the fatal crash took place as Bolick's vehicle was traveling nearly 75 mph in a 50 mph zone.
