Gov't to study small-plane threat

WASHINGTON, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- The crash of a small plane into an Austin, Texas, office building will help the government shape anti-terrorism rules for private aviation, an official says.

The Feb. 18 crash killed three people, including the pilot of the small plane. Federal authorities said the pilot, a disgruntled taxpayer, deliberately flew his plane into an office building that housed offices of the Internal Revenue Service.

The assistant administrator for the Transportation Security Administration says his agency plans to hire an aviation expert to study all available information about the incident, USA Today reported Friday.

John Sammon said the review will help the TSA learn how much damage and how many deaths can be caused by a small plane flying into an office building.

"It may simply be a confirmation that for very small planes you're not going to see a lot of casualties," Sammon says. "Or there may be something we're unaware of."
