Murder-suicide suspected in teen's death

POWDER SPRINGS, Ga., Feb. 18 (UPI) -- A high school football standout appears to have been the victim of a murder-suicide in Powder Springs, Ga., police said Thursday.

Police said the body of 18-year-old Rajaan Bennett of McEachern High School was found at his family's home early Thursday, along with the body of his mother's former boyfriend, Clifton O'Neal Steager, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Powder Springs Police said officers called to the home early Thursday morning heard multiple gunshots from inside the residence.

Following the gunshots, Narjaketha Bennett, 37, and Taiwan Hunter, 32, fled the home, followed by two juveniles. Hunter had at least one gunshot wound and was forced to undergo surgery.

SWAT team officers later entered the home and found Bennett and Steager dead from gunshot wounds. Police said Steager appeared to have died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

The Journal-Constitution said Bennett rushed for 1,857 yards and 28 touchdowns as a senior running back at McEachern. He had agreed to play for Vanderbilt University starting this fall.
