MOSCOW, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- NATO needs to change its attitude toward Russia if it wants full cooperation, the head of the international committee in the Duma said Thursday.
Konstantin Kosachyov talked to reporters after a meeting in Moscow of representatives of both Russia and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. He said the Kremlin was sending a signal when President Dmitry Medvedev listed NATO expansion as one of the significant threats facing Russia when he released a new military doctrine last week.
Since the breakup of the Soviet Union and the end of the Warsaw Pact, NATO has more than doubled in size to 28 members. Many of the new members are former Warsaw Pact countries.
Kosachyov said the Moscow talks did not resolve all the differences between Russia and NATO, and he hoped talks in Washington later this month would be fruitful.
