CHESAPEAKE, Va., Feb. 10 (UPI) -- A Virginia sheriff's sergeant accused of robbing the same bank three times in just over six months has been dismissed, officials say.
John Michael Keane II of Suffolk was arrested Tuesday shortly after the third robbery at BB&T in Chesapeake, WVEC-TV, Hampton Roads, Va., reported. He was being held in the Virginia Beach jail.
Chesapeake police said a man entered the bank Tuesday afternoon, his face hidden by a surgical mask, and shoved a bag at a teller, The Virginian-Pilot reported. He left the bank, and witnesses said he made his getaway in a red car.
Police spotted a similar car nearby and pulled it over, arresting Keane.
"Finding out that it was a sheriff's deputy is totally, totally shocking," said Jack Bider, president of the Chesapeake Fraternal Order of Police.
The bank was also robbed twice in 2009, on July 10 and Dec. 23. Investigators believe Keane was the perpetrator in both.
