Teen named suspect in ice cream shooting

VALLEJO, Calif., Feb. 5 (UPI) -- A 15-year-old runaway is the individual responsible for the shooting of an ice cream truck driver in Vallejo, Calif., authorities allege.

Vallejo police said they used surveillance footage to identify the suspect in this week's shooting as Peter Montenegro, a teenage runaway from Hayward, Calif., the Vallejo (Calif.) Times-Herald said Friday.

In the wake of Wednesday's shooting, ice cream truck driver Amarjit Kaur was listed in serious but stable condition at an area hospital.

The 39-year-old mother-of-three was sitting inside her truck when the shooting occurred, authorities said.

The motive for the shooting near Reignierd Preschool remains unclear, but some of Kaur's colleagues are fearful the shooting may have been a robbery.

"We are scared right now," said one of Kaur's colleagues, Mon Duwan. "We haven't had a chance to discuss (what we may do differently) -- we're just worried about the lady -- but everyone is scared for their safety."

The Times-Herald said police are considering Montenegro armed and dangerous.
