Woman charged with shooting son's ex-wife

SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- A 70-year-old woman has been charged with killing her son's ex-wife outside a Salt Lake City day-care center where the younger woman worked.

Investigators said Mary Nance Hanson called 911 immediately after firing at Tetyana Nikitina's car, the Deseret News reported. She was arrested outside the Salt Lake Community Action Program Head Start.

"I don't know, and that's all I'm going to say," Hanson allegedly told the 911 operator, who asked her why she shot Nikitina.

Nikitina, 34, sought restraining orders against Dale Jankowski twice after filing for divorce from him in 2005, court records show. Police said Jankowski is believed to be Hanson's son.

Unified Police Lt. Don Hutson said Nikitina and Jankowski had been involved in custody disputes but investigators had been unable to discover some specific incident that might have "triggered" Hanson's rage.

Hutson said Hanson's car was about a mile from the day-care center. She allegedly fired at Nikitina as she drove off, reloaded and fired again into the car.

No children were at the day-care center Friday.
