Accused airport trespasser quiet student

PISCATAWAY, N.J., Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Friends say the New Jersey student charged with trespassing at Newark Liberty International Airport just wanted a little more time with his girlfriend.

Haisong Jiang's security breach last Sunday snarled air traffic at Newark and around the world. He was charged with a misdemeanor Friday and released early Saturday.

A roommate, who would give his name only as Hui, told The Star-Ledger of Newark that Jiang's girlfriend now lives in Los Angeles. He said she had stayed at the house he shares with Jiang and other roommates in Piscataway for a week.

"He was totally excited, even before his girlfriend visited," Hui said. "He was very excited to find a real good woman."

Jiang, 28, came from China in 2004. Hui said he is studying molecular biosciences at the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine, run by Rutgers University and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.

He was apparently able to slip into an area that was supposed to be entered only by passengers who had gone through security screening because a Transportation Security Administration guard had stepped away.
