Woman charged with serving booze to kids

WEST BEND, Wis., Jan. 6 (UPI) -- A Wisconsin woman has been charged with serving alcohol to 10 children at a sleepover party for her 12-year-old daughter at a hotel in West Bend.

Police Chief Kenneth Meuler said parents reported Dec. 27, nine days after the party, that their children, aged 11 to 14, had been given champagne and Mike's Hard Lemonade, a bottled drink containing vodka, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. Sarah Shay was given summonses for the alleged offense.

"Our investigation revealed that on the way to the hotel and while at the hotel, Ms. Shay served the children champagne and Mike's Hard Lemonade," the chief said in a statement.

Parents said the party took place at a Hampton Inn in West Bend. Shay and the children who attended the party live in Kewaskum.

Lt. Paul Pokorski said none of the children needed medical treatment.
