WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- Police in Utah have taken a DNA sample from the husband of a woman who disappeared last week.
Investigators have also suggested they now think Joshua Powell of West Valley City may be concealing information about the fate of his wife, Susan, The Salt Lake Tribune reported. Powell was questioned by police last week but canceled a third interview Monday, apparently on the advice of a lawyer.
West Valley City Police Capt. Tom McLachlan said Powell's unwillingness to answer more questions "raises the stakes."
"We are not having this reluctance from any other individual that has any information," McLachlan said.
Powell told police he last saw his wife just after midnight on Monday, Dec. 7, when he left with their two young sons for a trip to western Utah, and found her gone when he returned at about 5 p.m. Monday. While he was away, police broke into the house after getting calls from people anxious because they had not seen the family.
One friend described Powell as a "controlling" husband. Rachel Marini said several friends advised Susan to get a divorce but she did not "want to give up on her marriage."
